Methodology & sources
Our credibility is the product. Here is exactly how we source and check what we publish.
Financials
Company revenue, payers, revenue-per-payer and margins are read from each company's most recent Form 10-K on SEC EDGAR. Headline revenue figures are independently re-confirmed against the SEC's structured XBRL company-concept API — i.e. two independent reads of the same primary source.
Quotes
Risk-factor and strategy quotes are reproduced verbatimand were confirmed by searching the filing's own text. Each carries its filing citation. Where a quote could only be paraphrased, we say so and do not present it as verbatim.
Prices
Dating-app prices are A/B-tested and personalisedby age, gender, location and platform — there is often no single “true” price. We record each price as a dated snapshot and flag its source:
- Primary — read from the app's own App-Store / Google-Play in-app-purchase listing or official page.
- Medium — a reputable secondary roundup, pending primary confirmation.
- Contested — disputed or single-source; rendered only with a caveat.
What we won't do
- We won't state a subscription-vs-à-la-carte split for Match Group — the filings don't disclose one.
- We won't repeat the “$6B industry, −5.2% decline” figure as if it came from a filing — it didn't.
- We won't headline the contested “paying gets you fewer matches” statistic — it's single-source and correlational.
- We won't take affiliate income from a dating app.
Corrections
Found something wrong or out of date? Tell us and we'll fix it with a dated note. A standing reference is only worth anything if it's kept current.
